What happened to After School Knife Fight?

This is brief history of what happened to After School Knife Fight. But really, it's mostly about two people (Brandon Velestuk and Kevin Smart) since they moved to my city after Kamloops. My impressions indicate that both are pretty embarrassed about the band.

Jacen Beers has probably disappeared but I remember a VLV thread about fixed gear bikes that linked to something he posted.

Brandon Velestuk was in an awesome band called the Dirt On (suggested "Swan Dive") and has since been not too active with music. The band had a lot of interesting guitar work and was sort of mathy and different. He does lots of design work (Gigposters) and has done work for Metropol.

Kevin Smart has been the most musically active and his projects include:

Pay the Pipers

We've been busy but keep checking this page. And support Brent Eyestone who runs Magic Bullet which has been in better bands than you and put out better releases (ie. Pg. 99, Majority Rule) than your two-release tape label.

Pay the Pipers.

Brent entered a Budweiser contest and is riding on us to keep his joke "band" in the contest, who have found themselves in the big finals against only a handful of others in the country. To quote the man himself
Basically, go tick "LIKE" at http://www.bandofbuds.com/market/washington-dc
Then go add this profile: http://www.facebook.com/roddypipers and we'll keep you updated with actual content in real time

And expect something fun from CMHWAK for Christmas.

CMHWAK Launch Contest Results

The results are in.  I copied the member list to a text file and used http://random.org to randomize it using atmospheric noise.  #1 means winner, so that makes the winner user "h_crescenzo".  I've sent you a message to get your shipping details, etc.  I hope you don't live somewhere crazy because your name makes it sound like you do.  But I guess I can't be picky.  Everyone else, you can see how close you were to winning in the screenshot.  Sorry that it cuts off partway through, I didn't want to bother making multiple screenshots.  This contest was fun and I'd love to do more.

Revisit: Jupiter Lander - S/T

So I was browsing through my totally OOP record collection (or something) the other day and then I stumbled across this little piece of wonder.

Jupiter Lander is an "old fashioned" emo-band from Leeds, England. I don't know how big and famous they are out there, but whoever hasn't heard them yet really really should. Unfortunately they disbanded in September 2008, but they managed to release a 7" and an EP before their death.
Their music is more towards the "happy" sound, somewhat The Pine-ish. They build up towards a climax, breaks it down into twinkly guitar parts with desperate singing which then builds up towards the end and every instruments just fits perfectly in every tone until they hit the last one. You know, the usual! I love this stuff, and I'd advise everyone who can to buy their 7" if they get the opportunity. It has some sweet artwork as well.

This is their myspace, and check my blog for downloading.

News: Recent news in the CMHWAK forums

I might as well do small news updates like this, since lots gets posted about in the forums and most of it is notable but doesn't need to bury our blog content in the process. So here goes:

Band: Delo Truda

Time for me to share some still alive and kicking music. Canada gave birth to "No Alarms" in 2008, but 2010 brought a name change into "Delo Truda". Named after a Russian Anarchist publication meaning "workers cause", this four-piece screamo act brings us an excellent 18 minute four-track self titled release. Quite an excellent mix of slow, mid and fast tempo melodies, as well as the fact that they like making both fast three minute songs as well as "epic" seven minute monstrosities. Great song composition, pace changing and dual vocals...what more could you ask for?

The main reason I'm posting this is because this band is still young, despite it's formation in 2008, and still a lot of people haven't even heard about them. Give them a try, you won't regret it!

Interview: Ed Warner's Cage

Ed Warner's Cage is a band from France, they've been around for a bit now and have been playing an intense brand of screamo. Here's an interview I did with them recently.

MANUEL: Hello, could you please introduce yourself, your band name, band members and what type of music you play?

ED WARNER'S CAGE: Ok, I'm Jerome, ED WARNER's singer and guitarist. The band's name is taken from...

Revisit: Corea

"¡Corea es bueno!" as one of their local fans would say. Corea is (obviously) from Spain, I'm pretty sure they are still together. Before I heard their music, I saw a live picture of them showing one of the members playing a synthesizer. At that moment I knew I would love these guys. And in fact they do rule, they play a post-rocky brand of screamo, if your a fan of long build ups and cool background tones, you will probably enjoy Corea. They have done a few Europe tours, I'm not sure if they have done any America tours yet. Plain and simple, check these guys out, especially if your a fan of Envy. If your not a fan of Envy, do it anyway. You can read more about them on their myspace, if you know Spanish.
